Tennessee Career Clusters: With over 700 different careers to choose from, it is often difficult for students to focus their varying interests. Dividing the job market into clusters should assist them in viewing future career possibilities more clearly. Career clusters are occupations that are grouped together because persons employed in these professions have been shown to share similar interests and strengths. Selecting a cluster to explore provides a variety of opportunities to pursue

O* Net Career Exploration Tools: The O*NET® Career Exploration Tools are a suite of assessment tools designed for career counseling, career planning and exploration. The tools are designed to assist a wide variety of individuals to gain personal insights that will help them identify occupations that they might find satisfying. These instruments will help individuals identify their work-related interests, what they consider important on the job, and their abilities in order to explore those occupations that relate most closely to those attributes. The instruments include an Ability Profiler, Interest Profiler, Computerized Interest Profiler, and a Work Importance Profiler.

ROCC Virtual Career Center: This site provides individuals of all ages career advice including self-assessments; job search databases by Tennessee counties; and resume writing, interviewing and job-readiness tips.  No matter if you are just starting your career, changing jobs or looking for a new career direction, this site can be helpful.

The Source: This is the official data site of Tennessee's Department of Labor and Workforce Development. In addition to providing labor market information, the new version includes an active job search.

Show Me the Career Videos: This site has a career resource library of over 350 videos of real workers performing job tasks. The videos are streamed in RealPlayer format. Also available in Spanish.

Career Voyages: The United States Department of Labor, in partnership with the Department of Education, produced this website to provide information and tools to build careers in high-growth, high-demand industries and occupations.

The College Board Career Search Guide: The College Board Career Search is another way to find out about jobs and careers. If you aleady know what you want to do, you may browse the list of Career Categories. Select a career to learn what to expect from a job and what to do in school so that you can work toward the job you want. You'll find out about training and qualifications, what earnings to expect, and what the future holds for each occupation.

The Career Guide to Industries 2006-2007: Companion to the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Provides information on available careers by industry.

The BLS Career Information: Jobs for kids who like......: This portion of the Department of Labor Educational Resources site is an elementary school pupil's introduction to career information. Discusses what workers do on the job, similar jobs, pay, preparation, and where to find other information.

The Work Interest Quiz: Complete the sample quiz to discover more about your aptitudes, values, and interests to help you plan your career. This is a preliminary quiz to the national Interest Finder associated with the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).

The Real Game: This series includes six programs designed to bring real life into the classroom. Students will have fun as they learn about adult life roles in the context of their own career and educational planning.

Tech Prep in Tennessee: Information for educators, counselors, students, and parents on sequenced programs designed to provide technical preparation in high school that continues through two years of technical school or community college in selected career fields.

Institute of Career Guidance: This site includes a job search and recruitment service for the education, guidance, training and youth work sectors.

Career Journal: This website provides the adult with relevant information on job-hunting, managing your career, executive recruiters and salary and hiring information.

Career and College Planning Resources: This websites provides links to resources for career planning and career development.  It includes job and workforce preparation; job searching resources; help getting into college; stress, conflict and self help; portfolio development; and finding a school, college, or technical training.

Quintessential Careers: This site provides links to resources for career and job-search advice.  It includes job-seeker tools, the top ten quintessential jobs, and job-hunting tips.

CollegeforTN.org: A student services website supporting the public and private colleges and universities of Tennessee.

FINANCIAL AID

Tennessee Scholar Dollars: Want to know more about the Tennessee HOPE Scholarships, need-based supplemental awards, merit scholarships, or the Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills grant? This site contains facts and information on how the Tennessee Lottery program will benefit students.

Available Scholarships: Information on scholarships that are presently available for Tennessee students. This site focuses on Appalachian students who are interested in computer science and mathematics. Fifteen scholarships in the amount of $3,125 per year will be awarded each year from 2002 to 2006.

Tennessee's Baccalaureate Education Savings Trust (BEST): This program provides two ways for Tennessee families to save for college.

Tennessee Edscholar Program: Edscholar is a scholarship program designed to recognize and reward outstanding students seeking higher education in Tennessee. Sponsored jointly by Edamerica and Edfinancial Services, the Edscholar program underwrites tuition expenses for qualified incoming freshmen at eligible colleges and universities statewide.

Mapping Your Future: This website is a national collaborative, public-service project of the financial aid industry that brings together the expertise of the industry to provide free college, career, financial aid, and financial literacy services for students, families, and schools.

PARENTAL

Parental Involvement Guide: Now available through America's Career Resource Network (ACRN). Parents are extremely important to their children's success both in school and after graduation. This guide gives parents information and resources to help their children succeed. It also serves career development professionals by showing them how to involve parents in career decision-making and educational planning from the earliest stages of their child's development. Useful for school administrators, teachers and counselors to assist in strengthening ties between school and home.

PERSONALITY

EdAmerica This Tennessee College and Career Planning System site is designed to assist students in assessing interests, skills, and work values. 

The Humanmetrics Personality Test: An important part of career building is knowing who you are. This online test is based on the Jung-Myers/Briggs typological approach to personality assessment. The 72-item test is a fun way to determine the strength of your personal preferences and the description of your personality type.

The Five Factor Personality Test: Developed by Dr. Tom Buchanan, University of Westminster professor of psychology, this program is based on the International Personality Item Pool representation of personality. It explores the idea that there are five main dimensions sufficient to describe human personality.

How To Create Your Resume: Allows students to build a resume online by entering personal data such as career objectives, experience, skills, abilities, education and interests.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Regents Online Continuing Education (ROCE): Would you like to upgrade your present work place skills? This site offers an extensive Continuing Education program in a non-traditional method for adults 18 years of age or older regardless of their educational background. These Continuing Education courses are delivered completely online to meet the demanding schedules of the workforce. ROCE is a preferred provider of training for WIA and we offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for all our courses. Many of our courses also have been approved by their designated accreditation body. ROCE courses are designed to upgrade your skills, improve organizations and economic performance and to provide personal enrichment.

The Department of Labor: This site explores career options in the state of Tennessee and lists high growth jobs in the state.  It will assist the adult in making a career change.
