Careers in Electronic Publishing involve practical application in the operation and development of skills using software packages and operating systems. People in the field apply research, organization, writing, proofreading, and copyediting skills with a working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style. Concepts, typographical design, mechanics of page layout and design, and creativity are applied through the use of industry standard publishing and photo editing software in text layout and graphical design. Voice technology, scanning and converting of photos and line art are also applied in the creation of electronic and/or printed publications.

Includes instruction in creating, designing and producing interactive multimedia products and services, to include digitally-generated or computer-enhanced media used in business, training, entertainment, communications, and marketing. Computer systems and editing; information resources management; web policy and procedures, Internet applications of information systems security; user interfacing and usability research; and relevant management and communications skills are also included.
